Making the Adjustment to Senior Home Care, Dayton, Ohio

Families are often concerned about the process of finding a reputable caregiver, asking all of the right questions, and hiring just the right agency that fits the needs of the client. For Seniors, making the adjustment to having a new person in their home is often a huge hurdle, and it deserves special consideration on the part of the caregiver and the agency they represent to make every effort for a smooth transition. The initial introduction is always important, and should be made at least one day prior to the first day of service. Golden Heart Senior Care actually sends a letter of introduction with a photo of the caregiver to the new client with copies to family members as the first introduction, then an informal visit to simply say hello and chat for a few minutes on the day before services begin.

To reinforce this positive “beginning” and assure a comfortable, trusting relationship between the client and the caregiver, it is imperative that the lines of communication are always open and available betweenthe family and the client and the caregiver. Learning more about the client’s preferences, concerns, short and long term goals, and the family’s expectations can result in huge rewards in creating a lasting, positive relationship with everyone concerned, and will also result in a quality of care that exceeds expecatations. Families will benefit by enhancing the comfort zone when a caregiver is present.

Trust is the key element in any relationship, and for a Senior to have trust in a caregiver, all parties must move slowly toward the understanding that the goal is to allow the Senior to remain in their own home for as long as possible, and the caregiver is the key to making this happen. When everyone is on the same page, the adjustment to having a caregiver will be a smooth transition, and stress will vanish!
